CLOSED HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEMS CORROSION INHIBITOR

 DESCRIPTION

WSC 8170 is a multifunctional liquid closed system treatment. It is a liquid blend of corrosion inhibitors, scale inhibitors, polymeric dispersants, copper corrosion inhibitors and a pH buffer to prevent scaling and corrosion from occurring in the closed system. It functions by a protective molybdate film-forming corrosion inhibitor. It helps keep systems clean free from corrosive attack and harmful insulating deposits, thereby maintaining design heat transfer efficiency and longer equipment life.

PRODUCT USES:
WSC 8170
Unique combination of inhibitors and dispersants blend provides excellent corrosion, and scale protection
WSC 8170 Designed for use in closed recirculating hot and chilled water systems operating at low, medium, and high temperature providing excellent and complete protection to ferrous and non-ferrous metals while acting at the same time to increase the solubility of scale forming aliments.
WSC 8170 Is Molybdate based inhibitor specifically designed to control, pitting, galvanic action, corrosion, and scale formation where dissimilar metals may be present.
WSC 8170 Compatible with most corrosion inhibitors, antifreeze solutions and alcohol.

WSC 8170 is a scale & corrosion inhibitor designed for closed loop systems. It is also used in systems that contain antifreeze (either automotive or HVAC grade), to provide additional protection against corrosion. Most antifreeze formulations, especially the automotive grades, do not contain sufficient buffer and corrosion inhibitor for HVAC applications. The addition of WSC 8170 will increase the buffer and inhibitor levels to provide a greater protection against corrosion

TECHNOLOGY BEHINDS

Sodium molybdate has been used for decades as a substitute for chromates for the inhibition of corrosion in mild steels over a wide range of pH. Molybdates have a very low toxicity and are less aggressive oxidants toward organic additives that are often used in corrosion inhibiting formulations. The protection of mild steel used in the construction of air-conditioning cooling water and heating systems is a prime application. Molybdate solutions protect against rusting of steel parts during machining, and are used in water based hydraulic systems. It is also used as an additive in automobile engine anti-freeze.

The potential for corrosion is high in closed systems and is controlled by using high levels of products containing borate/nitrate, molybdate, and sometimes silicates or organic corrosion inhibitors.

If corrosion isn't controlled, abrasive metal oxides (iron and/or copper) form that can cause pump impellers and seals to fail. They also form deposits that can interfere with water flow and heat transfer. A cleaning solution can be used as a remedial treatment to dissolve and/or suspend metal oxides.

Closed systems, especially those treated with borate/nitrate or all-organic corrosion inhibitors, are subject to bacterial growth because these compounds are used as food. If such growth is allowed to progress unchecked, it can form slime deposits that reduce water flow, interfere with heat transfer, and generate under-deposit corrosion problems. It is best to control the bacteria by adding a non-oxidizing biocide.

DOSAGE

Treatment should be used in sufficient quantity to maintain 80-120 PPM as Molybdate. Feed rate is 1200 to 1800 gr/cubic meter of system volume. Adjustments in dosages can be made on the basis of plant analyses performed with simple test equipment. Consult Your Water Services Ltd. consultant for the proper dosage

To assure a clean system that is free of both corrosion and scale deposits, the following dosages are recommended.

bulletChilled Water Systems: is 1200 to 1500 gr/cubic meter of system volume
bulletHot Water Systems: is 1200 to 1800 gr/cubic meter of system volume

Note: Dirty or contaminated systems should be drained, flushed, and chemically cleaned before treatment to get maximum results. A side Stream filter is maybe recommended to ensure proper removal of loosened particles. A biocide program may also be necessary to remove any microbio contamination. Consult your Water Services Ltd representative for cleaning, filtration, and/or biocide recommendations.

FEEDING

WSC 8170 is non-corrosive to ordinary metals used in feeding devices. Feed WSC 8170 to system with any type of by-pass feeder or proportional pump.
