Nonoxidizing Toxicants

In many situations, nonoxidizing toxicants prove to be more effective than their oxidizing counterparts. Most often, they are used in conjunction with oxidizing microbiocides for broader control.

Many plants chlorinate intermittently and add a nonoxidizer once or twice per week to improve microbial control.

The following sections review some of the more popular nonoxidizing microbiocides.
